Scripture Mark 8:34-38

Jesus said that whosoever would follow Him, would have to deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Him.

In the society we live in, there are a lot of people who would laugh at what Jesus said about denying yourself. We are living in a time where it seems that most people are out to get what they can for themselves. It seems that the motto is, "My four and no more." Meaning . . . I'll look my own, let someone else look after theirs. They give no thought to Jesus or to the state their soul is in. However, Jesus said there is no profit at all in gaining the whole world, if in the end your soul is lost.

What does it mean to be lost? It means to die without Christ. We can't take the things of the world with us when it comes our time to die, but we do have an eternal soul that will live on forever. It is up to us how we live our lives, but a life lived for Jesus is a life well spent.

Jesus said in verse 38 that if we are ashamed of Him and His words while we live on earth, He will be ashamed of us when we comes for His church. We must live a life that is pleasing to God and do what He says in His word. One day we will have to stand before Him and give an account of how we lived. Will He be ashamed and have to turn us away? The choice is ours!

Deny yourself the Master said
And watch out for your soul.
Live your life for Jesus Christ
Make pleasing Him your goal.
