Scripture Acts 16:22-34

Have you ever done something that you knew was right and someone got up against you for doing it? That is exactly what happened to Paul and Silas. They cast an evil spirit out of a girl who was possessed. Now that she could no longer tell fortunes and earn money for her masters, they had Paul and Silas beaten and cast into prison.

Can you imagine how they must have been hurting? Their feet were put into stocks and they could hardly move. They were bruised and beaten, but, Praise God, they were not defeated.

At midnight, when most people in their situation would be complaining, Paul and Silas started singing praises to God. They didn't just sing under their breath, because the Word says that the other prisoners heard them.

What an example of complete trust in God. God heard their praises and came to their aid. He sent a great earthquake and all the prison doors flew open, and all the prisoners were set free. Paul and Silas could have escaped and ran away, but because they stayed and witnessed, the jailer and his whole family got saved. Glory to God!

Just as God used Paul and Silas in prison, He can use you and I today. All we have to do is stop grumbling about our situations and see how we can glorify God in them.

Don't grumble about your lot in life
Be content to let God lead
In paths where He would have you go
To help someone in need.
