When the officers went to the prison in the morning to get them, the guards were standing outside and the doors were still locked. Imagine their surprise when they went inside and there was no one there. They went and arrested them again and demanded that they stop filling Jerusalem with their teachings. They replied as we should when we are asked why we do the things that we believe God would have us to do. They said, "We must obey God rather than man." Sad to say, many Christians today are dominated by what men say, and what they do sometimes depends more on what man wants, instead of what God wants.
Situations may come in our lives where we cannot obey both God and man. When that happens, we must choose to obey God and His word, regardless of the cost. We may be persecuted at some point in our lives for what we believe. When we are, we must remember the words of Luke 6:22 that says we are blessed if we are persecuted for Jesus' sake.
One day we will have to stand before Him and answer for what we have done. We must try to do what God would have us do at all times.
