Scripture 1 Kings 19:1-12

Elijah was a man who was mightily used by God. He had a lot of enemies because he stood up for what was right. As he sat under a tree he told the Lord that he wanted to die because he felt he couldn't take it anymore. An angel of the Lord appeared unto him and fed him so he would be strengthened for the journey he was about to take.

The word of the Lord came to him and he was told to stand upon the mount because He would speak to him there. There was strong wind, an earthquake and fire, but God wasn't in any of them. Instead, He was in a still small voice. Sometimes when we are waiting on God, we expect Him to move in miraculous ways. But sometimes it is in the quietness that He reveals Himself. Psalm 46:10 says,"Be still and know that I am God."

There are times when God will indeed answer with miraculous displays of His power. But there are also times when He may choose to answer in a still small voice. He sometimes asks that we be quiet in his presence so He can speak to us. There are times when we talk to God and He doesn't have a chance to speak because we do all the talking and none of the listening. Just as God spoke to Elijah, He will also talk to us, if we take the time to listen for His voice.

Be still and know that I am God
Are words the Psalmist said
Be quiet in God's presence
So your spirit may be fed.
