Scripture Psalm 23

There are many beautiful passages in the bible, but this Psalm is one of the most quoted. We can see from reading it that the leadership of Jesus is portrayed as a shepherd. A shepherd is someone who always looks after his sheep. He leads them and guides them along. He is always concerned about their well being. Even in danger he doesn't leave his sheep. He always stands by and protects them. He makes sure that they are never hungry, or in need. Whenever they were hurt, the shepherd would pour oil on their wounds so they would heal.

Is this not a picture of our friend and Saviour Jesus Christ? Doesn't He lead and guide us if we allow Him to? Isn't He always concerned about our well being? When we are in danger, doesn't He by His Holy Spirit try to warn us? When we are in need of food or clothing, cannot we claim Phil 4:19 and believe God to meet the need? When we are sick or hurt, is He not there with His healing hand outstretched to heal our hurts? Truly He is a shepherd above all shepherds.

Verse 3 says,"He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness." Jesus will do that for us if we will allow Him to. There is only one condition. We have to be willing to place our lives at His feet and give Him full control. When we do, we can live with the confidence of knowing that Jesus is walking along the path before us.

He leads us by His guiding hand
And walks where we will tread
We'll never have to be afraid
If by the Lord we're led
