Scripture Luke 13: 10-17

The Jewish law prohibited anything from being done on the Sabbath. It was considered a day of rest. One day Jesus was teaching in the synagogue and a woman which was sick for eighteen years was there. She was all bent over and couldn’t raise herself up. What happened when Jesus saw her? His compassion automatically kicked in as it always did, and he called her over to him, and healed her. She immediately became straight and glorified God.

You would think that everyone would have been happy for her, wouldn’t you? After eighteen years of suffering, finally she was free. Sad to say, not everyone felt that way. The first thing the ruler of the synagogue did was to get indignant because Jesus had healed the woman on the Sabbath. Jesus answered him by saying, “You hypocrite, each of you takes his donkey or ox out and gives him water on the Sabbath. Should not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years be loosed from her infirmity?”

Imagine, getting mad because Jesus did good and healed a woman who was sick. When He said those things, they were ashamed. They certainly had every right to be ashamed. Don’t ever get mad at anyone for doing good. There is enough evil in this world to be mad at. Thank God that Jesus is still as compassionate as He has always been. If He wasn’t, where would we be?

Thank God He hasn’t changed
Jesus is still the same
There’s healing still available
When we call upon His name
