Scripture Joshua 5: 13-15

Joshua was a servant of God and he was the newly appointed leader of the children of Israel after Moses died. He was about to embark on a journey where he would lead them into the land that God had promised them. The enemies they would encounter would be many and the battle sometimes would be hard.

One day Joshua was by Jericho when he saw a man standing with his sword drawn. Joshua’s first question was, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” The man answered and said that he was the Captain of the Lord’s host. Joshua fell on his face before him and was told to take off his shoes because he was standing on holy ground.

Joshua, being human, must have wondered within himself how they would defeat their enemies. If he did have any such questions, they were now answered by the appearance of the Captain of the Lord’s host. The army of the Lord would be fighting for them. If God is for us, who can be against us? The answer.......no one.

Have you ever been in a battle with the enemy and wondered if God was really there by your side? Have there been times when you felt like you were fighting alone and losing the battle? Well, we too have no need to worry about the battles we fight if we are trusting the Lord. The same God who was with Joshua is also with us, fighting for us.

You’ll never stand alone
While God is on your side
You will stand and fight
You won’t have to run and hide
