Scripture 2 Samuel 7: 1-16, 28-29

David was described as a man who was close to the heart of God. Yes, he had made mistakes in his life, but God had forgiven him. One day as he was sitting in his house he was bothered because he was living in a fine palace but the Ark of God was in a tent. Nathan told him to go ahead and do what was in his heart, but that night God spoke to Nathan and told him that David was not to be the one to build a place for Him.

I wonder how David felt? Then, God told David that he would have a son, and his son would be the one to build what he had felt to build. But then God took it one step further and told David that He Himself would be a Father to his son and look after him. He said His mercy would not depart from him and that David’s throne would be established forever. What a promise for David to receive from God. David could have reacted in a much different way than he did when he was told that someone else would do what he felt to do.

We can take a great example from how he reacted to it. He was pleased. Maybe as you read this today, you may have a work in mind that you would like to do for God, but He has called someone else to do it. If this is happening or happens, watch out how you react. Don’t react in anger of bitterness, but recognize the fact that God knows who is best for the job. Pray for that person and ask God to bless their ministry, and then make yourself available for whatever else God might have for you to do.

Be willing to be used by God
In the place that He will choose
He knows what you can do
He’ll do a work through you
