Scripture Philemon 1-25

Here we see Paul trying to mend a broken relationship. Onesimus, one of Philemon’s slaves had stolen from his master and had run away. While he was in Rome he met Paul and had invited Jesus into his life and was now a born again believer. According to Roman law, if a slave ran away from his master and was returned to him, his master could brand him or kill him. Philemon was also a follower of Jesus and so Paul was now appealing to him for Onesimus on the basis that he was not only his slave, but also his brother in the Lord.

Paul also tole Philemon that if Onesimus had done him any wrong, or owed him anything, that he, Paul, would pay him back. Scripture doesn’t say how the situation turned out, but id Philemon was a true follower of Jesus, he forgave Onesimus and welcomed him as his brother in the Lord

This must be our way as well. If we know of anyone who needs to be forgiven and restored, it is our responsibility, as a child of God, to help them. Sometimes all someone may need is a push in the right direction. God requires that we treat everyone we come in contact with the same way that we ourselves would like to be treated.

Always remember this scripture. Galatians 6:1....Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. (kjv) And always remember, it could happen to you sometime and you might need the compassion and understanding of your brothers and sisters in the Lord.

To help restore someone in love
Is what we all must do
Many people look to us
To see Jesus shining through
