What a wonderful thing to know. Verse 3 says that the branch can’t bear fruit unless it abides in the vine. Neither can we bear fruit unless we abide in Jesus. In fact, in verse 5 He says that in Him we will bring forth much fruit, but without Him we can do nothing. How true that is. We are nothing outside of Jesus Christ.
If we call ourselves born again believers who are following Jesus and are not producing fruit, something is wrong. It’s by our fruit we are known. (Matthew 7:20) What kind of fruit are we producing in our lives today? Is it good fruit or is it rotten fruit? We need to examine ourselves every day and make sure we are producing fruit that is fit for the Master. We don’t want to end up as a branch that is cut off and cast into the fire.
What better example can we follow today than Jesus. He produced the fruit of love in such a way that people were drawn to Him by the multitudes. There is a chorus that we sing sometimes that says...To be like Jesus, this hope possesses me . In every thought and deed, this is my aim, my creed. To be like Jesus this hope possesses me. His Spirit helping me, like Him I’ll be. No one lived a more fruit filled life than Jesus, our example.
