Scripture 2 Samuel 9: 1-13

Saul had tried everything to kill David. For awhile David had to be on guard everywhere he went. Now Saul was dead. Saul’s son Jonathan and David had been like brothers until the day he was killed. Now David was trying to find out if there were any of Saul’s family still alive. If there were any still living, for Jonathan’s sake he would show them kindness. The only one left was a son of Jonathan’s who was lame. Saul’s grandson.

David had him brought before him. His name Mephibosheth and he was so scared that he fell on his face before the David. David quickly reassured him that he meant him no harm. He restored everything that Saul had owned to him and he ate with David continually. David and Jonathan were true friends and that friendship was extended to Jonathan’s son after he was dead.

A true friend loves at all times. That is what everyone needs today, true friends. You see a lot of people who claim to be your friend but when you really need them they are nowhere to be found. A real friend will stick by you and love you no matter what happens to you. A friend like that is a rare jewel, a priceless treasure. If you have such a friend thank God for them.

Then of course there is that friend who is a friend above all friends. His name is Jesus. He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24) That describes Jesus. He stays by our side no matter what. If you don’t know Jesus, make Him your friend today. You will wonder how you ever made it this far without Him.

True friendship stands all tests
And lasts throughout the years
Its there when there is laughter
And when there’s sighs and tears
