Scripture 1 Timothy 5:8

Today we live in a society where the breaking up of families is a common everyday occurrence. Father’s and mother’s are leaving their children with no thought at all of their welfare. Older people are put in institutions, not because there is always a need for health care, but sometimes because someone just couldn’t be bothered to be bothered. They have more important things to do.

This verse of scripture says it is not right to abandon your own family members. Next to the Lord, the people you should feel closest to, and care about, should be your own family. You should be able to depend on your family for help and they should be able to depend on you. God made and approves of the family unit. I believe it is precious in His sight. That’s why this verse of scripture says that if any man will not provide for his own family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel. Webster’s dictionary defines an infidel as....One who is not a Christian or apposes Christianity. Wow! That is a powerful definition.

It seems to me that God doesn’t think too highly of anyone who refuses to care for their family. Maybe as you read this, you, or someone you know may be on the verge of a marital breakup. If that is the case, bring the situation to the Lord. Let Him work it out. And remember, if someone in your family needs help, don’t you let them down. Do all you can and God will be very pleased that you are not an infidel.

Don’t let your family down
Support them while you live
For this is right in God’s eyes
He loves to see you give
