Sure enough, Eli called Samuel to him and told him not to keep anything from him. So Samuel told him everything God had said. I wonder if Samuel was surprised at Eli’s response? Eli said....It is the Lord, let Him do what seems good to Him. Eli had served God long enough to know that He was a just God and that His decisions were just. He knew what his sons had done and how he had handled the situation. So now he was willing to take whatever punishment God felt was right.
It has to be that way with us as well. If we do something wrong, we must expect God to react. God loves us but He cannot tolerate sin. If you or I commit any sin we must deal with it quickly and ask forgiveness. Don’t try to cover it up or make excuses for it. We must be very careful how we live or we might just find ourselves in the same situation that Eli found himself in.
