Scripture James 1:19-25

Whenever anyone says anything to us that is harsh and unkind, what is the normal thing we feel to do? You guessed it. We sometimes tend to answer back in a harsh unkind way. According to verse 19 this is not the way a believer is to act. We are to be swift to hear...good listeners. Slow to speak...someone who carefully considers their words. Slow to wrath because the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God.

You may think that this is not the right approach to make, but verse 22 says we are to be doers of the word and not hearers only. If God’s word says this is how we are to be. Then this is how we are to be. We must do what the word says. Its no good to want to hear something if we aren’t willing to apply what we hear to our lives. If we are only hearers and not doers, the word says we deceive ourselves and we are like someone who sees themselves in a glass and then goes away and forgets what kind of person he was.

When we hear God’s word and don’t put into practise what we hear, we tend to forget what we heard. Verse 25 says that if you are a doer of the word you are blessed. Everyone likes to be blessed. One of the ways you can be blessed is to obey and do what God’s word says. Besides all that, when we follow God’s word we will be living the best life we can and that is so important today.

We must follow God’s word
Do exactly what it says
When we are doers of the word
Then blessed will be our day
