Scripture: John 13:1-15

Can you possibly imagine how the disciples must have felt when Jesus got up and began to wash their feet? They knew that Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah. I wonder what ran through their minds at that time? They should have washed their beloved Master's feet. Not Him wash theirs. The only one with nerve enough to say anything was Peter. He told the Lord He wasn't washing his feet. But he soon changed his mind when Jesus told him that if He didn't wash his feet, he had no part with Him. Peter told Him to wash not only his feet but also his hands and his head. He couldn't bear not being a part of Jesus.

What Jesus was doing was leaving them an example to follow. Not that they were to wash each others feet, no, He was showing them that they were to serve others. He was showing them the humility of being a servant. Jesus expects the same of us. He expects us to reach out to a lost and dying world and do all we can to reach them for Him. To even humble ourselves if we have to. Whatever we do in love, putting others before ourselves, following the Master's example.

Follow the example of Jesus
In humility help everyone
For Jesus has shown us the way
We do what has to be done
