Scripture: Jonah 4:1-11

God had called Jonah to go and preach to the people of Ninevah. The people believed the word of God, so He took pity on them and He decided that He was not going to destroy them. Jonah got angry because He told them that they were going to be destroyed and when God changed His mind, he felt ashamed and wished he could die. I guess we would call it sulking.

The Lord made a vine to come and protect Jonah from the sun and for this, he was thankful. Then God made a worm and the worm ate through the vine and it withered. Then commanded a hot east wind and the sun to beat on Jonah's head and it was so bad that he fainted and once again wished to die. God asked Jonah if he had a right to be angry and Jonah said yes. God asked him if it wasn't right that He had taken pity on the city of Ninevah where 120,000 people lived. Jonah must had felt so bad.

He sulked because God didn't destroy a city and God mad when He destroyed a vine. It seems to me that Jonah's priorities were in the wrong place. HE had pity on the wrong thing. Lives are more important than things. Where do your priorities lie today? Are you more concerned of the welfare of the souls of men and women or about things? Make sure you show pity where pity is due.

Put people's lives before all things
Whatever else you do
For people need to know that God
Loves them as He loves you
