Scripture 2 Timothy 4: 6-8

Does it seem to you sometimes like everything you hear seems to be all doom and gloom. You hear of people who have committed suicide because they just couldn't go on. They figure there is nothing to look forward to. They obviously never read this passage of scripture. Paul felt he was at the end of his journey but he was certainly not at the end of his rope. He knew he had fought a good fight and was looking forward to what was ahead.

I like what he says in Verse 8 because it contains not only hope for Paul, but hope for every Christian that have their trust in the Lord and are looking forward to seeing Him. Paul said there was a crown of righteousness laid up for him which the Lord would give him. He didn't feel he was at the end of his life, he felt he was at the beginning of something beautiful. He knew that he had been faithful to God and God promises in His word, that if we are faithful to Him, He'll be faithful to us.

If God promises anything, we have to believe it, because God never lies. There is not much in this world to depend upon, but one person we can always depend upon is God. He is with us at all times. The thing to remember is that when we come to the end of our journey here on earth, it is just the beginning of a new life with the Lord. If we have received Jesus as our personal Saviour, when we close our eyes for the last time here, we open them in the presence of the Lord. What a God and what a hope we have.

When at the end of life's journey
Don't feel all hope is gone
For if you are a child of God
You'll sing a victor's song
