Scripture Proverbs 4: 20-23

Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived. When he became King he told God that he wanted wisdom more than anything else so he could rule the people wisely. God granted his request and because He did, we too can benefit from Solomon's wisdom. When we read and study this book as well as the others we find help in time of need. If we attend to the words of God today, not let them depart from our eyes, and keep them in the midst of our hearts, we will indeed find that they will be life to us. The word of God is just as alive and useful today as it always was.

Verse 23 is very important. In the NIV it reads this way....Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Also Matthew 12:34b says....Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh. Meaning what is in your heart affects what comes out of your mouth. I've seen people who were very hard hearted. I've seen others who seemed to have a heart of gold. The first one was cruel and nasty, while the other one spoke kindly and always wanted to do all they could to be helpful.

What kind of person are you? What is your heart like? An easy way to tell is to listen to what comes out of your mouth. So, always remember to attend to God's word and above all...guard your heart.

We must guard our hearts
From the evil of today
Attend unto God's word
And let Him have his way
