Scripture Luke 12: 16-21

I love to read the parables of Jesus because there are such wonderful examples there to help me in my walk with Him. This one is about a certain rich man who had many barns. The statement that he had barns, plural, suggests that he probably had enough and more besides. His barns had become too small and he couldn't cram any more inside, so he decided to build bigger ones. Then he could take it easy, eat, drink and be merry.

But, God had other things in mind. The man's time had come to die. Sad to say, according to verse 21, the only treasure he had was material. He did not have the pleasure of knowing God. God was right in calling him a fool. Now someone else would enjoy what he had worked so hard to store up.

This man could have helped the poor of his day and still have had enough for himself, but he was greedy. This kind of attitude never pays. How is it with you? Has God blessed you financially? Do you have enough and some to spare? What are you doing? Are you helping those in need or are you hoarding it up in the bank? Be careful. Your time to die will also come and if things aren't right between you and God, where will you end up? Don't be like the rich man. Take warning!!!!

Don't pile riches to yourself
Share with those in need
If you help your neighbour
You will be blessed indeed
