Scripture Genesis 13: 5-12

Abraham had come up from Egypt with his wife and everything he had. Lot, his nephew was also travelling with him. The two men together and all their possessions was too much for one place. So, they decided to separate. Abraham gave Lot first choice of where he wanted to pitch his tents. He told him that he would go in the opposite direction of wherever he went.

Lot chose a plain that was well watered and he pitched his tent near a place called Sodom. Lot could have had any part of the land that he desired, but he chose what looked good to him, to his natural eyes. Scripture doesn’t say if he asked direction from God, so I guess he didn’t. The place he chose was near a city that was very wicked and if you continued to read, you would see that God eventually destroyed it because the wickedness was so great. Lot started out living by the city, and eventually ended up in the city.

Be careful where you pitch your tent. Just because something looks good with the natural eyes, doesn’t mean that it is. Satan has made certain things look awful good, but upon closer examination, we soon find that it is full of deadly poison. We should never compromise. If Satan can get us to compromise, even a little bit, we will lose a lot. There is no room for compromise in the life of a child of God. We need to be on guard at all times and always ask God for direction. If we do, we won’t go wrong.

Be careful where you go
Be careful what you do
For others look to see
God, revealed in you.
