Scripture Amos 8:9-12

Even though the people of that day sinned and rebelled all the time, they always knew that they would hear a word from the Lord. They felt that would never change. But, when we read these verses we see that God was telling them that He would cause the sun to go down at noon and darken the earth in the day time. He said He would turn their feasts into mourning, their songs into lamentations, and even baldness on their heads.

The worse that He said as far as I am concerned, had to be in verse 11. He said he would send a famine. Not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing a word from God. The very thing they had always taken for granted would be taken away from them. They would wander all over, even from sea to sea, but there would be no word from God. How awful!!!

What could be worse than not to hear from God? I don’t think any worse could happen. How would we feel today if we knew that we couldn’t hear from God? If we knew that God would never answer us, no matter how much we prayed. I shudder to even think about it. But, that kind of thing will happen one day. When the door of God’s mercy is closed, men will call upon God and receive no answer. Make sure you are inside God’s fold today. Don’t take any chances of being lost. Be warned!!!

Imagine how sad it will be
When men call out to God
And receive no response
Even though they call out loud
