Scripture Daniel 1: 1-15

Daniel had been taken from his homeland and brought to Babylon. Life for him must have been so different when that happened. He had come from a place that had worshipped God, to a place that worshipped all kind of false gods. Right away the king tried to change Daniel. The king provided them with food that Daniel didn’t want to eat. Daniel finally convinced the one in charge over them to allow them to eat what they normally ate. Then at the end of 10 days if they were not as healthy as the others were, then they would eat what the King wanted them to. At the end of the 10 days Daniel and his friends were healthier.

Do you know why the situation worked out the way it did for Daniel? Verse 8 says that Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself. God honoured the faithfulness of Daniel to what he knew was right and worked things out for his good. God knew Daniel’s heart and He knew that Daniel only wanted to do that which pleased Him.

I wonder, have we purposed in our hearts today that we will not defile ourselves with the things of the world that comes our way? If we haven’t, then it’s about time we did. If we stand for what we know is right, regardless of what or who we have to face, God will honour what we do and help us in the same way he helped Daniel. He also knows our hearts. In the generation that we are living in the only thing that will get us through is if we hold fast to God. There is no other way. Purpose in your heart today that you will not be defiled with the things of the world. Stand for God regardless.




We must purpose in our hearts
To live the best we can
If we commit our lives to God
He will fulfil His plans
