For the born again Christian, we can have no other foundation than Jesus Christ. He is our firm foundation. If whatever we do, we do for Him and include Him, we will be fine. We must build all thing upon Jesus. Anything outside of Him will crumble and fall.
There will come a time when our works will be tried by fire. If we do good works for any other reason than that God might be glorified through them, it will be shown for what it is when they are tried by fire. If our works abide we will receive a reward. If our works are burned, we will suffer loss. We will still be saved but we will have nothing to show for how we lived and what we did.
So, regardless of what we do, always let our love for Jesus be the reason who we do it. We must never do anything for what we can get out of it. And above all else, make sure Jesus is the foundation that you are building your life upon. If you build your life on anything, or anyone else, you will crumble and fall. And all you have done will be in vain.
