Scripture Nehemiah 4:16-23

Nehemiah and the people were trying to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and from day one they faced nothing but opposition. Verse 16 tells us that it came to the point where one half of the people worked and the other half stood on guard, prepared to fight. Because of the distance between them on the wall, when they heard the trumpet blow, they were all to gather in one place. There God would fight for them. What an assurance they had to know that God was on their side. So, they laboured on in the work.

When we have a work to do and we know that God is on our side, it makes the work worth while. You may never have to stand prepared to fight and work while facing a visible enemy. But, we must stand as all times with the armour of God on, prepared to fight the enemy of our souls. Satan doesn't want the work of God to go ahead and He will do anything in His power to stop it.

Neither Nehemiah or any of the people undressed, except to wash their clothes until the work was completed. And completed it was. The wall was rebuilt despite all of the opposition.

If God calls you to do a work for Him and the enemy tries to do all he can to stop you, remember Nehemiah. When God is fighting for you, continue in the work, persevere and you will complete the work in victory.

Enemies may gather all around
When you work for the Lord.
But never fear, you're not alone
Lift high your sword, His word
