Scripture 1 Kings 11:1-11

When Solomon became king, he asked God for wisdom, so he could rule the people properly. God told him because he didn't ask for anything for himself, that He would give him wealth also. In 1 Kings 3:14, we see that the only condition that God made was that Solomon was to walk in His ways and to keep His statues. God blessed Solomon more than he could have ever dreamed.

But as we can see from the reading today, Solomon loved women. God said that he was to have nothing to do with certain women. We see that Solomon's desire for women proved to be his downfall. When he became old, his wives turned his heart from God. He even went as far as to build high places for his wives idols. The Lord became very angry with him and told him that he was going to take his kingdom away from him.

Solomon had it made. God had given him everything his heart desired and still it wasn't enough. He allowed sin to enter his heart to the point where it totally controlled him.

The same thing can happen to us if we allow it. We have to be very careful how we live. We can't even allow Satan to get his foot in the door. If we allow him in, he won't stop until he destroys even our love for God. There is nothing that this world has that could ever give us the satisfaction and the joy that a relationship with God gives.

King Solomon had everything
All the blessings life could bring
But sin within his life did reign
Without his God there was no gain.
