CRUELTY FOR LOVE

What a sight to see that day
Crowds were in the street
Others who had followed Him
Began to openly weep
He tried to carry His own cross
But stumbled under the load
So someone else was forced
To carry His cross up the road

What had He done to deserve this
This man from Galilee
The only reason He came
Was to set the people free
He preached of love, not hate
Of kindness to mankind
Now He was condemned to die
He who committed no crime

They spit on Him and hit Him
They mocked Him as a King
They battered, bruised and beat Him
This man who had done nothing
As if that wasn’t bad enough
They cast lots for His clothes
The pain He suffered that day
No one but God knows

They took Him to Golgotha
And nailed Him to a cross
Darkness filled the whole earth
As Heaven mourned its loss
The veil inside the Temple
That Kept God from human view
Was torn in an instant
The whole veil split in two

He felt forsaken by God and man
As He died there all alone
He gave His life that day
So His blood could atone
For all the sins of Mankind
What an awful price was paid
When the sins of all humanity
Upon God’s Son was laid

(Mark 15:15-39)
