For God He could have sent
Angels to rescue Him
But He allowed him to die
To pay the price for sin
It had to hurt the Father
He turned His head away
He could no longer watch His Son
Die on the cross that day
No wonder the sky turned dark
No wonder the sun wouldn't shine
No wonder the earth shook and trembled
No wonder it boggled their minds
No wonder God the Father
Turned away His head
From the scene before Him
The Son He loved was dead
How Satan must have mocked
The Saviour on that day
How he must have laughed at Him
As His blood flowed away
He must have felt He'd won
The battle they had fought
Little did he realize
What Jesus' death had bought
He had conquered death and sin
He beat Satan on that day
For the precious Son of God
Paid what only He could pay
The price of mankind's freedom
From sin how it did cost
It cost Jesus Christ His life
That day there on the cross.
