What You Know

The lights in the harbour shone dimly
Through the fog that was around
The night was still and quiet
There hardly was a sound
Except the lapping of the waves
As the boat it moved ahead
The fog had come so quickly
It filled their hearts with dread

The fog became so thick
They couldn't find their way
Even just across the harbour
In their home, that little bay
They had to be very careful
They depended on what they knew
The experiences they'd had through life
Is what finally got them through

I feel it's the same with me
Sometimes the way is not clear
Sometimes I scarcely find my way
My pathway seems so drear
My view is not as plain
As it seemed to be before
And though I try so very hard
There are struggles o'er and o'er

Just like the men in the dory
I depend on what I know
The knowledge that I have in God
Who looks out for my soul
I know that I can trust Him
When things don't seem so fair
Because He made a promise
That He'd be always there

He guides me through the night
Speaks softly through the pain
He's always there to help me
When I'm caught up in life's game
He speaks so very kindly
And guides me all the way
He tells me child I'm here for you
And by your side I'll stay..
