Promises

Have you ever made a promise
That you found you couldn't keep
You found you felt so guilty
It bothered you all week
You knew you said you'd do it
So they were counting on you
But when it came time to do it
For them you didn't come through

You found you got distracted
From what you said you'd do
You found you didn't have time
To follow your promise through
You couldn't face that person
You felt so bad inside
Because you knew that person
Felt that you had lied

We should never promise anything
We're not sure we can do
For when we cannot do it
We feel guilty through and through
We know we hurt someone we love
We can't turn back the time
We can't erase the hurt they feel
We can't even ease our mind

Our God He is not like that
His promises are true
They are written in the Bible
So plain for me and you
We can claim all His promises
We know that they are right
He will fulfill His promises
For on our side He fights

So if you have a problem
On God's word you can rely
For everything that's written there
Is written for you and I
His promises are eternal
His promises are sure
His promises will never fail
As long as life endures.
