Power

As I wait at the bus stop,
feel smooth comfort in the dark
		evening, the streets clean
of any living soul. This street
is mine for the moment. Until
I see the laser beam. A red dot
		shaking on the pavement,
		then vanishing. Coming back
		again. Vanishing. It is aiming
at my skull. Suddenly I feel
the buildings, the weight of them,
		surrounding and hemming me in.
		Industrial slick windows,
		reflecting the click and hum
		of sharp street lamp glow.
		Someone is hidden behind one,
		grinning in the quiet ink.
