Writer's Creed
While deep in thought one quiet day,
I heard a friend's voice firmly say,
"We've seen you not in verses here...
and wonder when we'll get some, dear."
So sitting in my silent place
I tried to write, to give them grace.
But much to my amazement, there
Were no remembered words to share.
So angry was I at this lack,
I tore the paper all aback.
And cried out in an angry tone
How dare the words leave me alone?
But noticing my angry cry,
a lovely lady caught my eye.
She told me of the Writer's Creed,
which states "All words come most
from need."
We talked of places never been,
and of the things we hid within.
As friends, quite often we explored
Those secret passages ignored.
I found the lady far too much
to kiss, or hug, or even touch.
Her words were always strong and sure,
her crown was straight,
her plinth secure.
(And always did I place her there,
for more than that I could not dare.)
I know more now than once before,
Of words, and ladies I adore,
And when it is a verse I need,
I'll not forget the Writer's Creed.
Which states "All words come most..
...from need."
