Sermon and Liturgical Archive

Occassionally I am asked to preach at various churches, my own or ones that hear of me through my extended network of contacts. For the sake of completion, here you will find an archive of these sermons. Hopefully they will prove more useful to those reading them on my site than they were to those sleeping through them in the pews.

I also have the tendency to write liturgies (worship services) for our group on campus and for other assorted purposes. It is a goal of mine, in fact, to have a liturgy for every season of the Christian calendar: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Pentecost, as well as individual holy days. All my liturgies are copyrighted, but are available for use with proper credit.

Sermons

Sermon on 29/09/02
Based primarily on Paul's admonition to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling".

Sermon on 27/07/03
Based primarily on the miracle of the loaves and fishes.

Sermon on 03/08/03
On the bread of life, really living and self-understanding.

Sermon on 10/08/03
On conforming our lives and using our gifts for the purpose of building up the Kingdom of God. Based primarily on Paul's letter to the Ephesians.

Sermon on 17/08/03
A summary sermon for the three previous ones.

Sermon on Christmas Eve, 2003
A summary of the Christian faith as I understand and experience it.

Sermon on 11/07/04
Expounding upon the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

Sermon on 01/08/04
On the nature of greed, with a heavy wallop of quotations from its greatest prophet, Ayn Rand.

Sermon on 08/08/04
A suprizingly good sermon, if I am permitted to say so myself. It begins with a history lesson on Lutheranism and goes on wax theological about the fruits of intimacy with God.

Sermon on 15/08/04
Dealing with Jesus' difficult teaching about His coming to bring a fire and division between families.

Sermon on 22/08/04
Exploring the Sublime idea of God, our reverence and humility before it, and a brief answer to the idea that Justice and Love are somehow equal attributes of God in tension.

Sermon on Christmas Eve, 2004
A "salvation history" in mystic form.

Sermon on 24/07/05
One of my most controversial sermons, in which I couch a discussion on gay marriage in an exegesis of Jesus' condemnations in a fleury of self-effacing, irreverent humour.

Sermon on 31/07/05
The follow-up sermon to the previous, on exclusion, Biblical condemnations and the feeding of 5000.

Sermon on 07/08/05
On the horrors of normalcy, the ease of just following the rules, and the depth of the Christian life.

Sermon on 14/08/05
A sermon on the real costs of human sinfulness and alienation, and the real marvel of God's grace.

Sermon on 11/12/05
Easily one of my best and most lauded sermons... Once upon a time, a people had a dream...

Liturgies

Liturgy for Epiphany
Originally written as part of a project for a university class, it ended up being good enough to serve as an Epiphany liturgy.

Christian Liturgy for Social Justice
A general liturgy for Christian activist types, broken into several sections: the need for social justice, the proclamation of the Social Gospel, call to social action, encouragement in fear and declaring the inevitability of God's victory and justice.
