Macapinlac March 1997 Part Two ******** "Dad! Dad! C'mere for a sec!" "Bobby, what in the hell is the matter with you?" his father yelled at him, unwillingly following the young boy. "You're actin' like a jumping garbanzo bean. Slow down!" Bobby skipped his way gleefully towards the top of the beach, as he got up to the top, he began to jump up and down in excitement, smiling. "Ok, so what is it?" his father grumbled. "Look dad!" he pointed down at a crafted sandcastle. "I made a castle. We'll live in a castle just like that someday!" William Drake began to laugh, exhaling another puff of cigar smoke. "Listen Bobby, you can't go round' following dreams, it's stupid. So stop keepin' your head in the clouds and do something right for a change." As William Drake walked away, little Bobby stared at his sandcastle, eyes teary. With a kick, he crumbled the sand with his feet, crushing the sandcastle to nothing but a slope of sand. He started to sniffle. "I hate you, dad." he whispered. *** 4:30 AM... RIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGG!!!!!! Bobby moaned as he slowly woke up from his dream, he blindly rummaged around his bed for a spare pillow and tossed it over his face. RIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!!!! Irritated, he threw the pillow across the room and sat up. He smoothed his hair with one hand as he squinted at the alarm clock. (4:30?! What kind of bum would call at 4:30 in the morning?!) RIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!!!!! He rolled over and reached for the phone. "Um, hello?" "Bobby Drake?" "Speaking." "This is Sam. Did ah wake you?" "Well, it's just 4:30 in the morning, no, you didn't wake me!" Sam chuckled. "Ah can sense your sarcasm." "You think? But I'm glad you called anyway Sam." "Bobby...um, Robert, we just got hold of Mount Sinai hospital..." Bobby's face lighted up. His eyes widenened. "So? What's the news on my father?!" "..." There was a moment of silence. All that could be heard was Sam's breathing on the phone. "Sam? What happened to my father?" "A...A...Ah'm sorry Bobby, he didn't make it." "WHAT?!" Bobby screamed, his voice echoeing throughout the apartment. "Please Bobby," Sam tried to soothe him. "Your dad was at a very critical condition when the folks at the hospital got'em. There was an internal bleeding in the head that the doctors were unable to detect in time. If there's anything ah can do to help..." Bobby gripped the phone, his face burned with anger. "That's the point, Sam! There is NOTHING you can do! My father's dead because he stood up for us mutants! Now, his good deed led him to his death, you can't do possibly ANYTHING that would make me better!" "Please Bobby, just listen..." "I don't want to listen Sam! Just...just leave me alone." he said as he slowly placed the phone back on the receiver. He plopped himself back on his bed, tears began to form on his eyes. "Dad, how could you leave me now?" he whispered as he closed his eyes. (Only if I even got to know the man better, if we only avoided the fights, especially like that time I took Rogue with me to dinner...) *** "Ya sure this is the place shugah?" Rogue inquired, pulling up to the front driveway. Bobby nodded. "Yes Rogue, this is definitely the place." Rogue pulled the clutch back as she leaned back on her seat and placed her hands on the steering wheel. "Not ta sound foolish or anythin', but ah'm kinda nervous." Bobby laughed. "Don't be. My parents...you can say love it...when I bring guests along for dinner." "Yeah." Rogue replied as she sighed, leaning forward on the steering wheel. Bobby placed his hand on her glove. "What's the matter Rogue? You seem preoccupied with something, you can tell me." She turned slightly and grinned at him. "Oh Bobby," she answered. "You are so good ta me, it's just that Remy and ah are having some problems right now." Bobby folded his arms as he leaned back on his seat and stared at the quaint house. "Frankly, I think he's a jerk." "Now don't go around sayin' stuff like that!" Rogue snapped. "Remy is ah kind an' descent man! We are just not on speakin' terms right now." Bobby leaned towards her. "Remy lied to you," he began his reasons. "He supposedly "forgets" to tell you that he was married to the Beaudreaux woman and he's going around flirting with a pretty girl like you. You deserve more respect than that Rogue." Rogue smiled at Bobby, she held his hand with hers, her glove preventing her from absorbing his powers. "Why Bobby Drake, that was mighty good of ya to say that to ah gal like me." Suddenly, a bright light shone from the front porch of the house. The couple turned to the light, squinting their eyes. "What in the?" A figure of an old man appeared from the light, he frowned at them. "Stop smoochin' and makin' out in front of our porch Bob, and get in the house!" "We weren't making out dad!" Bobby said irritably. "Rogue and I are just friends." "Yeah, that's what you said about the last one." William muttered as he stepped back inside the house. Bobby turned to Rogue. "I tell you, that man is impossible!" She laughed. "C'mon Bobby, their your parents, not the Sentinels!" Bobby slowly got out of the car as he heard Rogue's reply. "You say that like it's a good thing." Inside the house... Rogue continued to grin at Bobby's parents as she took another bite of the mash potatoes. "Ah must say, these are some of the best potatoes ah've ever tasted!" "Cut the kiss ass crap girl." William muttered as he began to slice his steak. "Shh William!" Bobby's mother warned. "So Rogue, tell me about your family?" Bobby's mother inquired. Bobby eyed his father constantly. "Mah family? Well, mah mother died when I was a lil' gal. Mah father and I really aren't seein' each other since..." "You turned mutant." William interrupted. "Shut up dad and let Rogue tell her story..." Bobby added. "You don' tell me to shut up in MY house!" William slammed his fist against the table, glaring at Bobby, who stared back at him, eye to eye. "Now boys," Bobby's mother interrupted. "Please calm yourselves while we're at the table, we do have a guest, you know." "Ah can see we aren't really in the socializing mood so..." "No, no, no. Please go on Rogue, Bobby and William have no trouble with that, now do you dears?" "No." "Go on Rogue." "Anyway, ah then decided ta seek for help." William chuckled. "Mutant therapy? Ha!" he added. Bobby pointed at William."You shut your mouth dad!" "You don' tell me to shut up in MY house Bobby, powers or no powers!" In a burst, Bobby stood up from his seat, turning the steak in front of his father into ice. "Here, have something cold like your fucking heart!" "Bobby, please calm down." his mother warned again. "Mom, stay out of this!" Bobby turned towards William again. "You stupid asshole! Whoever I bring to this place, you just have to insult..." "Like who Bobby?!" William yelled back. "One week, she's italian, than chinese, than japanese, and now..." "What dad?!" Bobby snapped at him. "A mutant?!" Bobby stormed out of the room and outside onto the front porch. Leaving the three figures in silence. A moment later, Rogue followed Bobby, turning towards William Drake on her way out. "Bobby has said a lot of things about ya when he was at the mansion." she sighed. "About how much ya were inspirational and ah hard worker. But he never mentioned how big of a bigot you were." William sat in silence, looking straight at the floor. *** Bobby lifted his eyes open again, the water covered his eyelids. A tear fell across his cheek. "Why couldn't we have loved each other like a family dad?" he whispered one last time. Like a family. END OF PART TWO.
