The brooding sky has become darkest black
As inky as the bottom of the sea.
Definition of hill and sky I lack,
Horizon, heaven, and earth: all agree.
I fumble about, my hands act to shield
Me from unseen terrors stalking the night
That clutch the stars. These things refuse to yield
Their greedy hold on the heavenly light.
But upon happenstance their grasp may slip.
The escaped star shines in the darkened sky
Free of my lackluster heart's iron grip.
For a moment all my hopes I let fly
At a star's rebirth, at our chance meeting.
The night, my hope, and light. All three fleeting.
