Sonnet #1
Dave Short

Summer wind doth blow clouds across the sky.
Darken the heaven and conceal a star.
And gazing through my glass, I squint and I
Stare at a celestial pearl, afar.
The clouds thicken and anon become dark
Enough to block out my stargazer's view,
But these clouds can't hide its heavenly spark
No matter their tint, it always shines through.
For if night were day and if day were night,
It would outshine even the noontime sun.
The clouds dissipate; I see its full light
And again I'm nearly blinded by one
Star. And though your bright light shines more and more
It will put you no closer than before.
