Another of my interests involves listening to my scanner. I have a couple of them. Who amoung us does not have at least one these days. In the last couple of years things have changed. More and more of the local police and sheriff departments are moving up to 800 Mhz. and using trunking systems. For the average listener this has really presented a problem. First of all is the additional equipment required. Most of us did not have a scanner that would work on 800 Mhz. Secondly is the trunking system. It is a little hard to keep up with all that is happening. I know that in the Gonzales area, not only do I now hear the local police and sheriff office but also state, parish, and whatever else is using the system. Some interesting listening at time. Hard to keep up with what is happening as the trunking system switches transmitters and frequencies.
I know that in the past it was easy to locate the frequency of your local department. Not so now days. The Police Call Book sold at Radio Shack is not up to date. Not even the latest edition. You can ask around and if your lucky someone will have some of the frequencies. Looking around the NET and there are some sites that list state and local frequencies, but not for all areas. I know that for Louisiana, Wyoming and Texas the list is lacking a number of the cities. The smaller cities are not listed. I will be putting some of the frequencies used in and around the area that I travel to here for those either in the area or coming to the area for business or to visit friends. Stay tuned, the list will be changing often.
Here are some local frequencies that I have found during my travels and living in the areas
Gonzales, Donaldsonville, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana area.
Texas:
El Paso, TX
Wyoming:
Rock Springs and Green River area frequencies
More listings later:
As I travel I will update this listing. May have to move it to a separate page.
