2002-2007 Update. This page is an ongoing upgrade just as the systems here in the house. Stay tuned for the latests from the computer room.
My Home Computer
My interest in computers date back to the first Tandy Model 1. Back then we though that 4K of memory was all one needed. Then came 8K, 16K and 64K. What more could anyone want. That much memory and a good take recorder was all one needed. Of course technology was moving faster than most of us could stay up with. Programing was in Basic and the how to program books flooded the market. Around the same time other companies entered the market.
Tandy continued to upgrade the Model 1 with more and more
goodies and improvements. I ended up with a Model 3, Model 4, a
couple of color computers, Atari's, Vic-20, C64, Tandy 1000 and
even a Tandy 4800HD notebook. One of the last laptops Tandy put
out.
Believe it or not I still have a number of all these computers around here someplace. As a packrat that I am, I don't seem to be able to get rid of much of my junk.
*** UPDATE ***
I broke down and upgraded the home computer in 1998. Nothing fancy just a IBM ThinkPad and I am still using it today.
Since 1998 things have really changed in the Allman household computer wise. We now have a server running a local area network, 3 machines on the network plus a new Toshiba laptop and a wireless network. We have also recently added a DSL modem for faster access. Works great. I just finished building a homebrew computer made up of left over parts. Just another day in the Allman Network.
