A Progress Report.
Sides being made ready for assembly, East Indian (EI) Rosewood.
Fretboard also EI Rosewood.
Under the bright work lights, the Rosewood actually looks purple.
Sides going together.
Another Mockup, with the pegbox propped up.
Lining still being installed.
Rear View:
Padauk Rear Stripe.
Pegbox:
Wood: Mahogany.
Tuning Key Brackets need trimming.
The Top goes on first...
I used Titebond Hide Glue, in case it has to be removed/repaired someday.
Now for the internal bracing, Spruce for the top.
One X brace crossing the bridge feet.
One over brace to get to the sides and holding up the end of the fret-board.
After back is glued on, all of this bracing is unseen.
Over View of Bracing "Clamps".
More... Trimming the top hangover...
Ready for the pegbox.
Internal label: Paul Taylor
Barton, #6, April 12, 2005.
Top View, not edged just yet, still has raw edges.
PegBox goes on...
Glued on with Hide-Glue and 1.5 inch wood screws.
Propped up with a piece of wood
showing about where the pegbox (lower part) gets cut off (at).
Oh, bad engrish.
Top edges already finished. Lots of end-grain finishing. Ugh!
The Back Bracing.
Braces are Mahogany.
Next The "F-Holes" get cut out of the top.
By hand.
Hide glue holds all.
Then The Back Goes On...
Lotsa rubber bands and tape hold things together
while the hide glue sets.
Shows the tail piece (stainless).
Bridge is not that crooked, just testing notes.
You can see the inside of the back through the "F-Holes".
Bottom Pix: the edge of the internal label is visible.
How nut works.
and unfinished back edges (glue shows).
Un-cut strings too.
Wanted to string it up (April 14th) to see if it can take the stress
and maybe set the string height. The bridge is a bit low and
needs raising.
Front & Back. (Somehow these pictures seem out of proportion)
Through the right f-hole, you can see part of the internal label.
Mahogany Pegbox, Close-Up.
Attached with Hide-Glue and 2 wood screws.
Bridge Details.
Bridge made up of E.I. Rosewood with Holly for the stripe.
Since this picture was taken, the "f-holes" were notched
and bridge has been replaced with the one below.
No, the strings aren't "twisty" just the picture of them is.
Strings: 2 each #10, 1 each #13 and 1 each #24 (changed to bronze).
The Waist, Colors!
The End.
