Back to Basics

Let’s get back to the basics here. We’ll start with us. We are non-denominational Christians, which is to say, we do not belong to any church that says you have to act this way or that. The Bible states that you must follow the leaders of your church if you place yourself within that church, or you must remove yourself from that church. Being a Christian is not about the building fund, or for that matter funding anything. The Bible teaches we are to love God with all our hearts, and to love one another as we do ourselves.

There are those that look in the mirror every morning and call themselves names. To them that is “love”. To others “love” is a rope and handcuffs. Still others it takes on even sicker (for lack of a term that would be appropriate for the varied audience here) ideals. There are some that “love” is a quality of violence, either receiving or giving. To most “love” is a physical thing that you give of your physical self to someone “special”.

The sad part is most will never know real true love. In that we mean that which is given freely from one spirit to another. A sharing not only of one’s physical self, but of one's spiritual self also. With that there can be no lies, no secrets. To your mate, you lusting after another person is just another name for a secret is it not? Then you have placed a wall between you and them. Slowly over the years you place so much on that wall that you cannot possibly tear it down by yourself.

This is what God teaches us. No walls. For if we lust after money, another person, that pretty car or anything that takes our eyes off of Him. Then we are the loser. Love is being willing to give yourself to and for another being. It is to walk that extra mile, to give all that you can. There is no end to loving another. You are to love others as yourself. Would you not do anything and everything to save or help yourself? That is how God wants you to love.  There are many different forms of love in Gods word.  One is the love for another human being (friendly); another is for your spouse (romantic) but of all the types of love there is the strongest which is, Gods love for us. That is unconditional, no matter what. No mountain is too high and no valley is too low. There is no pit deep and dark enough to keep you from Gods love if you want it. His love never ends. It is always available to you, at your darkest moment or your brightest hour. In fact it’s a pretty sure bet that during your brightest hour Gods love lifted you there. He greatest act of love for you was on the cross and going down into hell and paying the price for you. What price is that you ask? In the Old Testament, God made laws that man should have been able to follow, however man being of flesh could not. God could not remove His laws without penalty. So He paid it, in full. In His body He paid it with cuts, tears, bruises, whips and nails. We see today many portraits of Christ on the cross. We have seen none so far that would fit the description the bible gives us. He no longer looked like a man but a shredded piece of meat. We need to take the sugar coating off of it. It was not a romantic scene, it was graphic image, Hitler’s gas chambers, the movie Seven, the worst accident you have ever seen, all rolled up into one. Such is the price He paid to forgive you for the sins of your flesh. Remember what we know as God is a trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father gave up His son to prove His love for us. The love He wants you to know and share is that, unconditional love.
