VOLUME CONTROL STRUCTURES CHECK UTILITY Release Level II-3.0.1x/Krivabo-Unisys_Belgium This application consists of one runfile: VCSCk.Run Product Name : Volume Control Structures Check Supported On : B24, B26, B27, B28, B38, B39, and all SuperGen hardware Supported OS : BTOS II, CTOS I, CTOS II, CTOS III Description : Volume Control Structures Check (VCSCk) is a utility which verifies the control structures of a volume. When possible VCSCk will also repair invalid structures. VCSCk is based on BACKUP VOLUME II-3.0.1 but the backup part has been removed. This version of VCSCk supports full verification and repair of the VHBs (CTOS/XE 3.0 is not yet supported). The following features are supported with this release: - Protected mode compatible - Uses the message file [Sys]VCSCkMsg.bin. Linked-in messages are used when this message file does not exist or when repairing the structures of the system disk. - Action-Finish may be used at any time. - Verifies that data can still be read with all heads. - Full verification of the VHBs with repair when they are corrupt. - VHBs can be rebuild from scratch as long as the fileheaders.sys file is still valid. - When the working Vhb cannot be found or when rebuilding the Vhbs (this happens only when they are both lost) VCSCk re-chains the free file headers. - When one or both VHBs cannot be read from disk because of IO errors, VCSCk will "Force Mount" the volume using its corrected VHB. This makes it possible to recover data which would otherwise be lost. - When the control structures cannot be fully repaired, VCSCk will attempt to bring them into a state which allow mounting and recovery of the data. e.g. When rebuilding both VHBs from scratch, if the file header for log.sys cannot be found, its corresponding fields in the VHBs will be reset and VCSCK will warn you that the volume cannot be used as a system volume. However, after running VCSCk the data can be recovered. - Repair is suppressed when there are files open on the volume.
