Future Employer,
I am searching for a full-time position or internship, leading to a career in programming.
Like many recent college graduates you may speak to, I lack work experience in the programming field. To my benefit however, I do have 2 years of experience in the business world. As Executive Director of The Princeton Review I was responsible for managing all aspects of the business and its 30 staff members. The results of my hard work speak for themselves as my office in one years time surpassed what had been previously established as the 5-year goal for growth and earnings.
I began programming as a hobby while employed at The Princeton Review. The standard corporate computer system was outdated and notoriously inefficient. Initially I dabbled with Excel in order to find better alternatives than the company system, but quickly found Excel to be limited. I bought some programming books and employed the internet in order to learn Java and C++. I created several programs that were user-friendly and efficient, but more importantly I unearthed a passion for programming.
Through this experience I discovered that I possess the key components to a strong potential as a computer programmer such as self-motivation, exceptional problem solving and analytical skills, creativity, and a strong work ethic. I turned this potential into concrete abilities through my studies in Computer Science, at the California State University of Chico.
I am an extremely well rounded person, with an intermediate level of programming knowledge, and high potential. I am enthusiastic about the prospect of working towards becoming an expert. I look forward to learning about the opportunities your company has to offer, and demonstrate that I have the skills that will enable me to excel as a long-term member of your team.
Sincerely,
Kyle Mackey
