We were going to buy our sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries from somewhere
like RS and have to pay around £100 for them. But wandering round a car boot sale one early morning, we came across a guy selling brand new Yuasa 12v 7ah SLAs for £4 each! We bought all six that he had, this would give us 21ah @24v, perfectly adequate for the drive.Several more wanderings around car boot sales yielded three more SLAs, one was a 12v 24ah for £5. The other two were monster 12v 38ah things and cost £5 each (£100 each new from RS), these weigh 15kg each so I don't think we will be using them on RW. They are great for running the robot during testing as it will run all afternoon on a single charge.

This goes to show that things can be found cheaply, you just have to work for it and get up early
