Darker text on a light background works best.
But light text on a light back ground, no way. I find it hard to read.

The best thing to do is to play with the colors and find out what you like
best. As with any time you use color, find colors that go well
together.

that will go with your background. If
the background interferes with the text then you just might want to find
a new background or keep the text where there is no background.
