Yell

Yell is a 3D game that I've been making. It's not very great. It currently uses a Doomish graphics system, that I've made myself. So far, I've only made a routine for texture mapping of Doom-style walls. I first wanted the game to use a Wolf3D-like engine, since I didn't know how Doom worked. I've made two unofficial Wolf3d-ish Yell versions, -2.30 and -2.29.

When version -2.29 was finished, I got an idea of how Doom could work, and I made a total rewrite of Yell, that supported Doom-style 2.5D-walls. The latest version is -1.71. The game isn't very fun yet (you can do two things so far: Go up the stairs, and go down the stairs). There is no automatic sector changing yet, so you have to do such things manually.

In the versions I've made so far, my intentions have been to make a 3D game that would work well on 486SXes. But eventually I changed my mind, since nobody has got such computers anymore. Instead I wanted it to be totally 3D, just like Quake. I've also got some ideas about a new sort of 3D object, that I don't think exist now: The Voxel Texture. That's a texture with voxels instead of pixels. I think it will get slower than regular textures, but that it also will look much better.

After checking out the already existing 3D engines availiable on the Internet, I realised that there already are too many 3D engine, and it feels useless to continue working with the Yell engine. Instead, I've joined the DOSDoom team.
