CCView Screen shot
CCView works with the game Close Combat and allows you to view and
track changes to the core combat units within your Company.
CCView allows you to create a campaign history file and update it
with the latest battle results. Updating the campaign history allows
you to track soldier attribute changes, view soldiers killed during
the battle, view core replacements, and view soldiers that were rotated
out due to force reductions. In addition, you can view changes to the
Command Hierarchy, view campaign statistics such as the current core
strength and the number of friendly/enemy kills, and track all of the
core units killed on both sides during the course of the campaign.
Core
units are those teams that will be present in the next campaign
battle if they survive the current battle. Close Combat sometimes
uses temporary units during certain campaign battles, with these
units being present only for that particular battle. CCView cannot
display any information on temporary units.
CCView extracts information on the core units from the AlUnits and
AxUnits files within the Close Combat\Games\Myob directory. This file
contains information on the core units that survived the previous
battle. Note that CCView will not be able to display information on
core unit replacements that are added at the start of a battle and
killed during that battle because these units never show up in the
A*Units files.
How to Create a Campaign History
CCView allows you to create and save campaign history files in any
windows directory, however you will always need to locate files that
are generated by Close Combat. These files are the AlUnits and AxUnits
files which are stored in the Close Combat\Games\Myob directory. It is
recommended that CCView be installed in this directory, as you will
save time in locating these files.
When you start a campaign history, CCView reads the A*Units files and
displays the current condition of the American and German Companies.
Historical information is available once the campaign history is updated.
You can create and track a campaign history while you are playing
campaign battles or you can load a series of existing campaign battle
replays and track the course of the campaign. As CCView is dependent
upon the state of the A*Units files, it is important to know when these
files get updated. These files are updated at the following times:
- During the placement phase of a Campaign Battle.
- At the conclusion of a Campaign Battle.
- At the start of a Campaign Battle replay.
The best times to create and save a campaign history are during the
placement phase of the first campaign battle or during the beginning of
a replay of an initial campaign Battle.
When you create a campaign history you will need to locate the AlUnits
file and select it within the file-open dialog box.
How to Update a Campaign History
CCView allows you to update a campaign history with new battle results.
When the update is complete, the display will show the changes to your
Company. These changes can include any of the following:
- Killed / Incapacitated soldiers.
- Replacement soldiers who survived this latest battle.
- Soldiers who were rotated out due to force reductions.
- Changes to the soldier attributes, combat record and decorations.
Note that combat skills do not change during the course of a campaign.
When you update a campaign history you will need to locate the AlUnits
file and select it within the file-open dialog box.
If you are playing a series of Campaign battles you can update the
campaign history at the conclusion of the latest battle, or at the
start of the next battle. You can also load a saved campaign battle
to get access to the campaign state from the previous battle, perform
the update, and then abort the campaign battle. If you are tracking
the campaign history from a series of saved Campaign battle replays
you can do the following:
- Load and start the first replay within Close Combat.
- Run CCView and create (and optionally save) the campaign history file.
- Switch back to Close Combat and abort the battle.
- Load and run the next Campaign battle replay. Allow the replay
to progress to a point where enemy units are spotted.
- Switch to CCView and select the File menu option: Update to update
the campaign history. You then have the option of performing a Save
or Save As on this updated campaign history.
- Repeat steps 3-5 for each saved replay.
If you happen to miss an update, the history will become inaccurate and
soldiers may show as having been improperly killed or rotated-out.
Subsequent correct battle sequence updates will be accurate.
You can save each campaign history update into a different Campaign
file through the use of the File/Save As menu option. This will allow
you to open and view the state of your Company after each campaign battle.
