The notes I have seen say the browser should scale for the resolution
difference between the printer and the screen. They also say that Explorer
3 for Windows does not do this. In my testing all other CSS browsers do.
IE3 is still very popular so this does need to be allowed for...

I havn't seen this, but it does not mean it doesn't happen. When you say it
does not work properly, what do you mean? To big, to small?

option in most cases.

Does anybody knows how to center an image horisontally
AND vertically in the browser's client area using CSS
(this alignment should work in any screen resolution).

I've been workin up the nerve to give ya'll free reign on my site for a
while. I'm totally cool with constructive criticism, but if you could hold

So...here goes...

I reply:

Good grief. Give me a break. That is so stupid, no offense meant
personally, Matt!!! One doesn't have to get screwed to learn a lesson.
That's like saying that you have to roll around in the mud to understand
how pigs live. Yes you will learn, hopefully, if you get screwed BUT you
don't have to get screwed to learn. Some times just being observant of
how pigs live, or listening to what a pig farmer tells you is helpful,
and you don't need ot take a mud bath.

This is a very old gimmick that circulated around when I got out of Art school
in the early mid 80's, but it probably go's even farther back.
First there is a difference between a Trademark for a logo and a name, and the
copywrite to an original creation like the artwork for that logo. The letter
thing will not give you a trademark. You must apply to the Office of Patents and
Trademarks in Washington D.C., but it doesn't cost all that much.. don't quote
me, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 or 15 bucks. You apply, and wait,
there is a listing also of Centers where you can do your own Trademark search...
Which is helpfull before shelling out the money and filling out the forms.

As a graphic designer, artist, whatever-if you have created an original mark
you have some rights as the creator to a copywrite automatically under the
current copywrite laws. You must be able to prove that you were the creator and
this is where the myth of the letter to yourself came about, as proof that you
created it by a certain date. It is of some proof in court, but Lawyers
generally
laugh at this sort of thing, in other words it is popular folk-law.

Two sources are the Patent and Trademark Office at 1-800-PTO-9199 or their www
site at : http://www.uspto.gov also the book "The Graphic Artist Guild
Handbook
Pricing and Ethical Guidlines" is a great source for many of these issues.

Bottom line is for Trademarks, do a search if it doesn't exist submit an
application
a few months later if you were the only one applying or the first in line
chances
are you will get it. And its you can save a fee.

I hope this helps...
