The Tale of the Summer of 1999

In the name of novelty we resolved to take a walk along the road. It's a rather large road, although not much used. On one side the straight face of a mountain rises for a hell of a lot higher up than I'd like to climb. It looks rather like a good place to go mountain climbing or hang-gliding from though, but I'm not into that kind of things.
I'm not totally sure we knew where we were going, there aren't really that many places to go, so we were just following the road.
Now--had I known how hot asphalt gets in summer, or how far we would walk I would have put on some shoes. I've always been fond of bare-footing, but there are limits. By the time we reached the river my feet were rather sore. Across that river there was a suspension bridge--horribly rickety and with a rail on only one side.
We crossed it. We didn't fall in and there was nothing of interest on the other side, so we crossed it again and moved onwards up the road.

Another mile or so up the river we reached a dam. It was a rather large dam at the end of a rather deep lake.
Now--I want you to know that I had absolutely no intention of going swimming--if I had I would have put on a swimsuit. I was not wearing a swimsuit. In fact I was wearing nothing but a pair of rather colourful trousers and a red undershirt.
But hey--it was hot and my feet were sore.
I had three choices: (A) sitting on the edge of the dam sweating while watching Sunni (who was wearing a bikini) take a swim. (B) Jump into the water fully dressed and later walk home soaking wet. Or (C) nudism.
Now--I don't want you to think I'm a pervert or anything, there was nobody around (aside from Sunni who I've known for years), not a single car had passed on the road above for quite a while and it was a workday so nobody but us were outside.
You've probably guessed already; we chose door number three.
Holy mammoth that water was cold!
I honestly don't think I've ever bathed in water that cold (not counting the time my cousins dared me to take a swim in glacier-water, but that's beyond the point). We had fun, though. Quite fun.
