My mother decided it was about time my nephews started learning Arabic. My daughter who is one year younger than them wanted to start as well. So Naani Jaan relented and started her on the alphabets. |
Naani Jaan Says: 'Repeat Aliph, Baa, Taa, Thaa.' |
And Arva repeated. |
Naani Jaan continued: 'Jeem, Haa, Khaa, Daal.' |
Arva says: 'Aur Chawal'. |
Naani Jaan is confused and says: 'Arva repeat Jeem, Haa, Khaa, Daal.' |
Arva repeats: 'Aur Chawal' :0) |
Keep in mind that Rice in Urdu is 'Chawal' and Lentils is 'Daal'.

Arva and I were driving around our neighborhood in which we have lived for almost a year and a half without having befriended any Desis (Pakistani/Indian/Bangladeshi). This is because we've not met that many. So we were only a block from our place, when we saw two kids dressed in Shalwar Kameez carrying a vaccum cleaner and their mother waiting for them in the front yard also dressed in Shalwar Kameez. I had slowed down considerably in curiosity causing the lady to notice me. I waved and drove on to our destination. When we got home, I mentioned it to Arva. |
I said: 'Remember we saw that Pakistani family, isn't it great they are so close by. There must be another Pakistani family too because they were either borrowing or getting back their vaccum cleaner. And it must be another Pakistani family they must be dealing with. We have to remember to meet up with them during the block party next weekend.' |
Arva replies: 'Yes, and we have to let them know that they can borrow our vaccum cleaner anytime.' |
