Reasons this might happen:
- Are you online?
- Check DUN Connection Settings
- WinSock.Dll / WSock32.Dll files could be incorrect sizes, and/or corrupted
- TCP/IP is corrupted (This
is under Slow connection Speeds)
- Client for Microsoft Networks (CMSN) is not installed
- Browser Settings
- Access number is having a problem
- Corrupted Browser software
Are you online?
- Easiest way to check is do you have an Icon next to your time (which is
opposite to your Start key) that looks like two monitors
connected by a wire? If so, then you are connected! if not, lets try
connecting, then loading a web page. Sometimes, it does help to Disconnect,
Restart and then Reconnect (especially if you have been online for a while)
Access number is having a problem
- Try another local Number, or a 1800# for your ISP
Check DUN Connection
- If you know your ISP's DNS#s, then here is how you put them in
- Open, MY COMPUTER, Dial-Up Networking. Right click on your ISP's
Connection, Select Properties
- Click on Server Types (Tab/button)
- Click on where it says TCP/IP Settings...
- if there is not a Dot in "Specify Name Server Addresses"
then click there
- Double-Click (or just Highlight) the first Zero in the Primary
DNS, and enter your ISP's DNS#s.
- Click on OK, OK and Try again
WinSock.Dll / WSock32.Dll:
- Find winsock.dll;wsock32.dll and check to see...
- (Win 95) 42KB;65KB
- (Win 98) 21KB;40KB
- (Win NT/2000) 3KB;22KB
- Correct size? go to step 7 if not go to 6
- You'll need to extract it! You'll need to have the Windows CD
or Find win*cab (and when you do get the Path!) Now that we have that
(I hope) click on Start, Run type COMMAND then in the prompt type CD C:\Windows\System and press
Enter then type the following:
extract /a /y <path for windows cabs, e.g. D:\win95\> \win##_##.Cab
winsock.dll
(replace ## with 95 or 98; ##_## with 95_02 or 98_22 e.g.
d:\win98\win98_22.cab)
extract /a /y <path for windows cabs, e.g. D:\win95\> \win##_##.Cab
wsock32.dll
(e.g. extract /a /y D:\win95\win95_02.Cab winsock.dll)
- Click on Start, Run, type COMMAND click OK type
in PING 127.0.0.1 then press Enter if you get replies, great
your done! If not go to Step 6
