How It Works

What does happen when you press that Connect button?
  1. Finds Modem, on it's port (com1 for example)
  2. Initializes the modem
  3. Dials the number
  4. Handshakes
  5. Sends Username/Password
  6. Makes a TCP/IP Connection
  7. Now you should be able to load web pages and send/receive e-mail.

If you got an error, here is what might be happening

  1. Cannot find the Modem on the Port specified.
  2. Initializes Modem - Incorrect Extra Settings (Modems Props)
  3. Clicking on Connect (or opening connection or the Dial-Up Networking folder) DUN is Corrupted (see err [101] under DUN probs/fixes), Connection is corrupted
  4. Dials  Dialing Properties (e.g. *70,)
  5. Handshakes Modem (maybe out of date driver, V90 might need to be disabled)
  6. Username/Password Could be incorrect, Server might be having a problem, *.PWL files corrupted, CMSN not installed
  7. TCP/IP Corrupted TCP/IP, Incorrect network settings (in DUN/Network)
  8. Browsing/E-Mail problems:  Winsock.dll, Wsock32.dll, TCP/IP, DNS, Server having a problem
